The free AI game maker for Roblox is Roblox Assistant, the AI built into Roblox Studio, which is itself a free app for Windows and Mac. Assistant comes with Studio at no extra cost, and the only limit Roblox lists is 50 procedural models per 24 hours. Many other AI tools for Roblox are third-party plugins: some give you a small free allowance and then charge, and others are free but need an AI you bring yourself.

What is actually free for Roblox

  • Roblox Studio: Roblox describes it as "a free application available on Windows and Mac".
  • Roblox Assistant: Roblox announced on December 5, 2024 that Assistant is "out of beta and generally available to everyone using Studio".
  • Code Assist: real-time code completions in the script editor.
  • Material Generator: makes tiling images and saves them as MaterialVariants.
  • Texture Generator: makes textures that take the shape of your mesh into account.

Two things can cost money.

  • Your own API key: Assistant lets you add an Anthropic, OpenAI or Google API key under Assistant's ⋯ (three-dot) menu > Manage API Keys. If you do, that company bills you for what you use. These keys need a payment card and have their own age rules, so ask a parent first. You don't need one to use Assistant.
  • Opening your game to all ages: this needs Roblox Plus or Premium for 2 months in a row, or a refundable publishing fee. Step 6 below has the details.

What about AI chat apps?

The free versions of AI chat apps can write Luau that you copy and paste into Studio. They can't see your place or test your game the way Assistant can, so you do all the checking yourself.

What about the big "free AI game maker" sites?

The top results for the generic search are Summer Engine pages, which focus on Godot-compatible games, not Roblox. If you're not set on Roblox, general tools like Rosebud or Godot exist, but this guide covers Roblox only.

What Roblox Assistant can do

According to Roblox's docs, Assistant can:

  • Write and run code, including adding several scripts at once (LocalScripts, server Scripts, ModuleScripts and RemoteEvents)
  • Insert models from the Creator Store
  • Generate meshes, materials and models
  • Plan a build before changing anything (Planning Mode)
  • Playtest your game and simulate inputs (Roblox also said in April 2026 that it can read output logs and take screenshots)

Planning Mode, agentic playtesting and Mesh Generation were announced on April 16, 2026. For a closer look at each built-in tool, see how to use AI in Roblox Studio.

Advanced tip: if you already use an AI app that supports MCP, you can turn on Enable Studio as MCP server under Assistant's ⋯ menu > Manage MCP Servers. That app can then read, edit and playtest your open session.

How to make a Roblox game with Assistant

1. Install Studio

Download Roblox Studio from [create.roblox.com](https://create.roblox.com/docs/studio/setup), open the installer (RobloxStudio.exe on Windows or RobloxStudio.dmg on Mac) and sign in with your Roblox account. Check your computer first:

  • Minimum: Windows 10 or macOS 10.14, 3 GB of memory
  • Recommended: Windows 11 or macOS 14+, 8 GB of memory
  • Screen: 1600x900 or higher

2. Open a place and open Assistant

Start from a Baseplate or a template. Click Assistant in the top-right of the toolbar at the top of Studio. If something from this guide is missing, look in File > Beta Features. Some AI features need to be turned on there, while generally available ones are on by default.

3. Plan one system at a time

Pick **Plan** from the dropdown in the Assistant input panel, or type /plan. Describe one system, for example *checkpoints for my obby that save where the player respawns*. The plan comes back as editable Markdown. It never runs on its own, so read it, fix anything you don't want, and click Build.

When the checkpoints work, start a new plan for the next system, such as a leaderboard that shows each player's stage. Asking for one system at a time makes the results easier to check. If you want an idea for a first game, see how to make a Roblox obby.

4. Swap placeholder parts for meshes

Type /generate_mesh followed by a text prompt or an image. You can use one or the other in a request, not both. The triangle count defaults to 10,000. If you select a Part first, the mesh uses it as its bounding box, so you control the size.

5. Test and fix

Press Play. If agentic playtesting is available to you, Assistant may read the logs itself. If not, copy the errors from the Output window, paste them into Assistant and ask it to fix them. Repeat until the system works.

6. Publish

Use File > Publish to save the game to Roblox. New games are private at first, so only you and your collaborators can play them.

To release it, finish the Content Maturity question and complete an age check. Games start out open only to age-checked players 16+. Opening a game to all ages needs:

  • 2-Step Verification on your account
  • A qualifying maturity rating
  • Roblox Plus or Premium for 2 months, or a refundable publishing fee
  • An evaluation period

See Roblox's publishing docs for the current rules.

Check what the AI writes

You don't need to be a Luau expert, but reading the scripts Assistant writes will help you catch mistakes and learn faster. A checkpoint for an obby can be this small:

-- Script inside a SpawnLocation used as a checkpoint
local Players = game:GetService("Players")
local checkpoint = script.Parent

checkpoint.Touched:Connect(function(hit)
	local player = Players:GetPlayerFromCharacter(hit.Parent)
	if player then
		player.RespawnLocation = checkpoint
	end
end)

When a player touches the checkpoint, they respawn there next time.

There is one catch. A new player who has no RespawnLocation yet can spawn at any SpawnLocation, including a checkpoint near the end of your course. Roblox's own sample fixes this by giving every new player a starting spawn. Name your first SpawnLocation FirstSpawn and add this Script to ServerScriptService:

local Players = game:GetService("Players")
local firstSpawn = workspace:WaitForChild("FirstSpawn")

Players.PlayerAdded:Connect(function(player)
	player.RespawnLocation = firstSpawn
end)

If Assistant gives you something much longer for a simple job, ask it to explain each part.

Limits and rules to know

  • Procedural models: "You can generate up to 50 procedural models within a 24-hour rolling window."
  • Other limits: Roblox doesn't list any other quota.
  • **Text the AI generates in your game**: Roblox says text-generation output must go through TextService:FilterStringAsync().
  • Your responsibility: you are responsible for generated content under the Community Standards, the same as anything you build by hand.
  • Releasing a game: new games are private. A public release needs an age check through facial age estimation or government ID (ID checks are only for users 13 and older), and games start out open only to age-checked players 16+.
  • Age: the Assistant guide doesn't mention age limits, but publishing does have age-related requirements (see step 6 above).

Free allowances in third-party plugins

These are popular picks with a free allowance, as of October 2026. Vendors change their pricing often, so check the linked page before you sign up:

  • Rebirth: free plugin with 5 credits on signup, then Hobby at $8.99 a month for 100 prompts or Pro at $15.99 a month for 300 prompts (Rebirth's guide)
  • RoAgent: 250 free actions (tool calls) a month, no card required (RoAgent's DevForum post), but you need your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription for the AI itself
  • SuperbulletAI, RoStudio and Craftly: each offers some free usage before you pay. Check their own pages for the current limits.
  • BloxBot and ZeroScript: free and open source. BloxBot uses an AI you bring yourself (a ChatGPT sign-in, an API key or a local model), so your plan sets the cost. ZeroScript works through a free AI web chat.

The RoAgent subscription note and the last two bullets come from RoCode's plugin comparison, which is written by a plugin vendor.

When a paid builder fits

Picoo, the plugin we make, is a paid Roblox Studio plugin with no trial and no unpaid tier. Pro costs $19 a month or $144 a year with 200 credits a month (prices in USD; local tax may apply). It reads the place you already have open and builds common systems like an obby, tycoon, shop, inventory or DataStore save from pre-verified recipe templates. Before a script lands in your place, it runs it through the Luau compiler and checks it for Roblox API mistakes. If a turn fails on our side, its credits come back automatically. You still press Play to test, and the game design is still up to you. If you're learning Luau, we'd suggest starting with Roblox Assistant. For how the two compare, see our Roblox game builder AI page or visit picoo.io.

FAQ

Is Roblox Assistant free?

Yes, it comes with Studio. Roblox's docs don't list a price for Assistant, and third-party comparisons list it as included with Studio. The only cap the docs mention is 50 procedural models per rolling 24 hours. Adding your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google costs money, because those companies bill you.

Can AI make a whole Roblox game for me?

AI can write scripts, generate meshes and playtest, but you still decide what the game is, which systems it has and why players come back. Build one system at a time and test each one.

Do I need to learn Luau?

No, but it helps a lot. Reading what Assistant writes lets you spot errors, and fixing Output errors is easier when you understand what they mean.

Why can't I find a feature like Planning Mode?

Check File > Beta Features in Studio. Some AI features need to be turned on there, while generally available ones are on by default.
