There's no Roblox tool called Pip. You probably mean Pip's Lab, a kids' coding site that doesn't make Roblox games, or Python's pip, which doesn't work in Roblox Studio. Studio uses Luau, and Roblox's version of pip is Wally or pesde.
Roblox Studio vs pip at a glance
- Pip's Lab: a browser coding platform for kids and teens. Does it work in Roblox Studio? No. Use instead: Roblox Studio, which is free.
- Python's pip: Python's package installer. Does it work in Roblox Studio? No, Studio runs Luau. Use instead: learn Luau.
- A pip for Roblox: a tool that installs other people's code into your project. Use: Wally or pesde.
Meaning 1: Pip's Lab, the kids' coding platform
[Pip's Lab](https://pipslab.ai/) is an online coding platform. At the time of writing, its tagline is "The safe way for kids & teens to learn AI". You build projects with help from an AI tutor called Pip.
What it makes:
- Websites
- Gadgets running on a virtual Raspberry Pi
- Browser games
It runs in the browser with nothing to install. At the time of writing, its homepage doesn't mention Roblox, Roblox Studio or Luau. To make a Roblox experience you still need Roblox Studio, which is free to use, and publishing and testing are free too.
Meaning 2: Python's pip
If you know Python and searched this, here is the short version. Studio scripts are written in Luau, and Python packages don't run there. A Studio script looks like this:
-- A Script in ServerScriptService
local Players = game:GetService("Players")
Players.PlayerAdded:Connect(function(player)
print("Welcome, " .. player.Name)
end)Two Python tools come up when people look for this:
- **roblox-pyc** was a third-party compiler that turned Python (and, in older versions, C and C++) into Luau. It installed with
pip3 install roblox-pycand came with a Studio plugin. The roblox-pyc project was archived in September 2025 and is no longer maintained, so it may not work with current Studio. We don't recommend relying on it. - **robloxapi** is a Python module installed with
pip install robloxapi. It's for Python scripts that talk to Roblox's web API, and it doesn't do anything inside Studio. Its author now points users to the newer ro.py library.
If you want to get good at Roblox, learn Luau itself instead of translating from Python. Our post on Lua vs Luau for AI codegen covers how Luau differs from plain Lua, including strict mode and type checking.
Meaning 3: Roblox's version of pip
A package manager downloads code other developers wrote (like a Promise library) and keeps it updated, so you don't copy modules into your game by hand. Roblox has a few.
Wally
Wally's README calls it "a package manager for Roblox inspired by Cargo (Rust) and npm (JavaScript)". It's aimed at projects you keep as files on your computer and sync into Studio. If you only ever work inside Studio, it adds extra setup.
1. Install Rokit, the tool installer Wally recommends, using the instructions on its GitHub page. 2. In your project folder, run rokit init. 3. Run rokit add wally (or rokit add --global wally to install it for every project). 4. Run wally init to create a wally.toml file. It includes a [package] section with your project's name, version, registry and realm. 5. Add the packages you want under [dependencies]. 6. Run wally install to download them into a Packages folder. 7. Sync that Packages folder into Studio with a tool like Rojo.
A dependency line looks like this:
[dependencies]
# Replace x.y.z with the current version listed on the Wally registry
Promise = "evaera/promise@x.y.z"pesde
pesde is a Luau package manager for Roblox and Lune (a tool for running Luau outside Roblox). Besides its own registry, it can pull packages from Wally and from Git repositories. Setup steps are in the pesde docs.
Forest
Forest is a hosted package manager and registry for Roblox that mirrors Wally packages. Its DevForum announcement has the details.
If you wanted an AI helper inside Studio
Some people search for Pip hoping to find an AI that builds Roblox games. Studio already has one: Roblox's Assistant, which comes built into Studio. We think it's a good place to start learning Luau. Some newer features that connect outside AI tools may need your own AI account.
You can read how Assistant compares to a paid plugin, or see how other Studio AI plugins compare.
Where Picoo fits
Picoo is a paid AI plugin for Roblox Studio that writes whole game systems spread across several scripts. You chat with it in the browser at picoo.io/chat, and its Studio plugin reads your place and puts the Luau and 3D models it makes into the right services, like ServerScriptService and StarterGui. Each script goes through the Luau compiler and a check for Roblox API mistakes before it lands, and Picoo adds to your existing scripts without wiping them.
Picoo is premium only and has no trial. Pro is $19/month, or $12/month billed yearly.
FAQ
Is Pip a Roblox tool?
We found no Roblox tool called Pip. The closest match is Pip's Lab, which makes websites, gadgets and browser games. At the time of writing, its homepage doesn't mention Roblox.
Can I use pip install in Roblox Studio?
No. Studio runs Luau, and Python packages don't run inside it. The third-party roblox-pyc compiler used to turn Python into Luau, but it is not official and was archived in 2025.
What is the Roblox equivalent of pip?
Wally is the best known one. You install it through Rokit, download packages with wally install, and sync them into Studio with a tool like Rojo. pesde is another option and can also pull packages from Wally and Git.
Can Pip's Lab help me learn Roblox?
Not directly. It teaches coding through websites, gadgets and browser games, and at the time of writing it doesn't cover Luau or Studio. General coding ideas like variables and loops carry over, but for Roblox you'll need to learn Luau in Studio.
